Tri County Report For March 6th, 2017

An Ellwood City woman escaped injury following a one vehicle accident in Wayne Township. State Police in Lawrence County report 26 year old Kaley Fox was south bound on route 65 Friday morning, when she lost control of her vehicle, first struck a mailbox then a billboard, then a utility pole.  Polic said Cox was not hurt.

A man is in custody for allegedly killing a retired deputy sheriff.  James Martin was stabbed to death in December in his East Butler home.  Police arrested Christopher Cannon Friday after he was caught on video allegedly using Martin’s credit cards.  An investigation revealed the pair had emailed each other the night of the crime.  Officers say Cannon sent a nude photo to Martin, and Martin gave Cannon his address.  Blood was also discovered in Cannon’s car.

Jurors resume deliberations today in the retrial of a western Pennsylvania man charged in the 2012 slaying of a pregnant woman and her unborn child. According to the New Castle News 31 year old Marlin Kelly is charged in the October 2012 shooting deaths of 19-year-old Conekeia Lynn Finney and her unborn daughter .Prosecutors allege that Kelly and another man went to an Ambridge apartment to rob the boyfriend of Finney, who was about seven months pregnant. His co-defendant pleaded guilty to homicide and was sentenced to 13 to 30 years.

The FBI is involved in an investigation into a cyberattack on Pennsylvania’s Senate Democrats.  The “ransomware” attack rendered the computer network useless Friday.  Governor Tom Wolf says the attack did not affect the state’s networks.

A pair of Butler County brothers are facing charges for allegedly defrauding the U.S. Department of Defense.  John and Thomas Buckner were charged last week and are accused of embezzling more than six-million dollars from the U.S. Army Tank Automotive and Armaments Command.  They are also charged with paying illegal gratuities and income tax evasion.  The siblings are co-owners of Ibis Tek, a company that makes clear armor for military combat vehicles.

The Sharon Herald reports that a former Farrell man pleaded guilty to charges releated to the sexual assault and beating of a woman over the course of a day, and the assault of a neighbor in whose house the woman sought refuge. 24 year old Ryan Knight pleaded pleaded guilty to charges that include rape, aggravated and simple assault. Farrell police said Kight sexually assaulted the woman May 4th at his former home on Shenango Boulevard. Knight has been in jail since September 2nd.

Near white-out conditions caused a major pile up Friday afternoon in Butler County State Police said the incident took place on Interstate 79 in Worth Township around noon.  In all the crash scene consisted of 20 vehicles, including an oversized load and mulitiple tractor trailers. Some minor injuires were reported.  The roadway was shut down for a number of hours.

Fire officials in Sharon are investigation a vacant house fire from early Sunday morning.  The blaze broke out just after 3am at a home  on the corner of Wheeler Place and South Irvine Avenue. When firemen arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames. The fire marshal will be out to the residence on todad to investigate. The home is reported a total loss. No injuries were reported.

A 5-year-old called 911 after his parents overdosed in Sharon on Saturday night. Both parents are still alive after help from Sharon Police. According to WKBN-TV Police said around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Mercer County Dispatch received a call from a 5-year old saying his parents weren’t waking up.Once inside, police found both parents had overdosed. EMS revived the father with Narcan. The mother woke up after medics got her attention. Children & Youth Services is investigating the case.
