After suffering a massive heart attack before her L.A. bound flight landed last week, Carrie Fisher passed away today and the world seems a bit colder. After losing icons like Bowie, Wilder, Prince, George Michael and more this past year, it just seems like salt in the wound to lose America’s princess to close out 2016.
Carrie Fisher played many roles in her time on the silver screen but none so iconic as her portrayal of Princess Leia in the Star Wars saga. She played the role with spunk and sass and strength and a no nonsense attitude combined with a tenderness and a sex appeal that had any boy or man wanting her to call them a scoundrel.
If you were a boy growing up in the late 70’s/early 80’s Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia was probably your first love and probably the first dirty thoughts you had! From her Cinnabon hair and clingy white gown in episode 3 to the gold metal bikini in Jedi, she could get a guy’s motor humming just long enough to shoot’em down with a witty, sarcastic jab and you loved her for it and you wished it were you she was shooting down.
She was also an icon for strong female roles too. Yeah, everyone gets all upset that Lucas had her in that “misogynistic” smoking hot bikini in Jedi but Princess Leia was a strong woman while never losing her femininity. She was a leader and damn good with a blaster! The Stromtroopers could have taken a lesson!
I for one spent countless days pretending to be Han Solo rescuing the princess only to have her put me in my place with a well-placed verbal barb….and I would have loved it. I always joke that I like my coffee like I like my women…strong, sweet and creamy (skin you perverts). It didn’t dawn on my until today that that was the archetype for the Princess Leia character as portrayed by the later Carrie Fisher…
From one half-witted, scruffy looking nerf-herder…..rest in peace your worshipfulness…
