The Erie Sports Commission has announced that Special Olympics PA will hold its Polar Plunge fundraiser in Erie for the second time on Saturday, November 12. The Erie event will kick off the Special Olympics PA Plunge Season, which sees nine Plunge events raising money for Special Olympics across Pennsylvania.
Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $50 before jumping into Lake Erie from Beach 7. The goal of the event is to raise money for Special Olympics Pennsylvania athletes and to build awareness of the organization’s programs.
Registration on event day will begin at 9am, with an 11:45am safety briefing preceding the plunge at Noon. Participants will receive a Plunge t-shirt, and appropriate costumes are encouraged.
The 2015 Erie Polar Plunge saw 400 plungers raise more than $60,000 for Special Olympics PA programming. Event directors anticipate even greater numbers in 2016.
