Is my Grandmother now running German restaurants?
Some restaurants in Germany are getting serious about not wasting food. Several eateries have started fining diners who do not eat everything on their plate. The idea is to encourage people to only order what they can and will eat. One restaurant, an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet, charges people a dollar and some change for not finishing food they take from the buffet. The owner says people tend to overload their plates with food and says he hopes it will remind people not to be so wasteful. He says “it is called all-you-can-eat not all-you-can-chuck-away.” So far he has collected over one-thousand dollars in fines. So, if you go to Germany, just like mom and grandma told you as a kid, “clean your plate!”
