Police are investigating a murder-suicide in Darlington Township. Duane and Sonya Myers were found dead yesterday by police, who went to their home because Mr. Myers did not show up at work. Officers say Mr. Myers shot his wife in the back and chest before turning the gun on himself. Detectives believe the incident happened early Tuesday morning.
The owner of a Zelienople bridal shop is facing indecent exposure charges. At least three people reported seeing Peter Scolieri standing naked in the display window of One Enchanted Evening earlier this month. Police say Scolieri smelled like alcohol when he came out of the Main Street store.
The trial for the former Franklin Regional High School student, accused of stabbing 21 people, is being delayed. Jury selection for Alex Hribal was supposed to start next month but officials announced yesterday that the trial will not start until at least October. Lawyers say the delay is necessary because they’re not ready. Hribal, who was 16 at the time of the 2014 attack, is being charged as an adult and is in Westmoreland County Prison without bond.
More information is being released about the man charged for taking a stolen gun into a Center Township movie theater. William Gossett was carrying a loaded semi-automatic handgun and a box of ammunition in his backpack Saturday night when he was arrested at the Cinemark Theater. Detectives said yesterday that they also seized 52 other items from Gossett’s bag, including a respirator, two cans of spray paint, gloves, tape, electric cords, first aid kits and a handwritten note. The contents of the note have not been revealed.
A Boyers man has been seriously injured as a result of a motorcycle accident in Marion Township Wednesday afternoon. According to State Police in Butler County 58-year-old Darrell Stiefel was tailgating a vehicle driven by 42-year-old Cody Barkley of Slippery Rock in the 600 block of Boyers Road near Allison Road. Stiefel allegedly tried to pass Barkley before running off the road and losing control of his motorcycle. Stiefel was flown to St.Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown. Police said Stiefel was wearing a helmet but is in critical condition.
Charges of operating a meth lab were filed Monday against a Mecer County man after police found a portable lab in his hotel room earlier this month. According to the Sharon Herald 48 year old Brian Hughes of Transfer was paying for a room at the Quality Inn on South Hermitage Road and was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia alone with a number of other charges. Hughes is in the Mercer County Prison of 100 thousand dollars bond.
A Mercer County bridge is scheduled to close on Thursday, requiring drivers to take a detour for five months. A project to replace the bridge on North Race Street over the Little Shenango River in Greenville Borough is expected to take until mid-December to complete.Drivers are being advised to detour along Main Street, College Avenue and Alan Avenue.The 95-year-old bridge is located north of the intersection with Main Street and south of the intersection with Allen Avenue.
An Fayette County man is facing charges for allegedly whipping a six-year-old girl with a belt. Police say Antonio Johnson hit the child at least seven times yesterday as punishment for pinching her sister. Neighbors told police they heard the victim screaming and officers saw welts on the back of her legs, buttocks and ribs. Johnson is not the girl’s father.
