The other day I read about an ear piece, it looked like a hearing aid, it translates foreign languages to the person wearing it, right into their ear in real time! Now today I read about two undergraduate students at the University of Washington that have invented a pair of gloves that translate sign language into speech. It’s called SignAloud and they have sensors that feed hand movement to a computer app, which translates the movement into speech. SignAloud is still a prototype, but they are working to upgrade the product and software to make it a usable tool for anyone struggling with vocalization, like stroke victims and other non-verbal special needs individuals.
We are living in pretty amazing times!
