Rep. James Proposes Extension to Unemployment Appeals

A new proposal from State Representative Lee James, who serves portions of Venango and Butler Counties, was approved by the House Labor and Industry Committee Wednesday. The Bill very simply proposes to increase the time for appeal on an unemployment decision by six days to 21. Representative James says the bill was inspired by the 2016 shutdown of Joy Global in Franklin.

Governor Seeks to Change Ages for Mandated Education
Governor Tom Wolf is seeking legislative approval for a mandate that children attend school from the ages of six to 18 in Pennsylvania instead of ages eight to 17. Governor Wolf says this would put the commonwealth in line with nearly every other state in the country and has been proven to decrease dropout rates.
