The Grammys have come and gone. All I can say is…woop de doo! Once upon a time, the Grammys were a big deal to a rock radio personality such as myself. It was a night when all of the biggest rock stars were out and up for the biggest awards. Not so much these days! All of the rock awards are handed out during the non-televised portion of the show. I jokingly told my fiancee that rock acts are only allowed in the building if they are accompanied by a hip hop/pop/rap artist! Much like the Red Hot Chili Peppers had to be accompanied by Post Malone! And sadly, most years the “rock” categories are cluttered with artists that fall under only the loosest interpretation of the term “rock.” Not always, but a lot of the time. And don’t get me started on where metal fits into the equation…
So, much like the Rock N Roll HOF, I take the Grammys with a grain of salt and a wry smirk to the obvious agendizing. It would be nice to have our favorite bands recognized and awarded for their efforts and their art but rock has never been about that. Rock doesn’t get dressed up in a suit and tie, waiting to be glad handed by the machine. Rock goes middle finger up, horns up and keeps on rocking!!!
Until next time….Cheers,
