Reno’s Rant: A Night At The Theater

I know it’s been a hot minute since my last blog post but when you’re the hardest working man in the radio industry today, as well as having, quite possibly, the worst work ethic in radio, it’s a strange balance beam-like dichotomy. But, I’m back!!!

Last weekend I had the privilege of a night at the theater! I got to see the Academy Theater’s production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street. WOW! Just wow! From top to bottom, this was just an outstanding performance all around. And this really is a commentary on the productions of the past calendar year for the Academy Theater.

I’m a firm supporter of the arts, especially local artists, but I had never taken the time to check out what’s going on at the Academy, until this year. It started with Jesus Christ Superstar which blew me away, Then I saw The Little Mermaid which blew me away! I had to see Rockin’ Rich and his wife Suzan steal the show in Gypsy and was blown away. Then this past weekend Sweeney Todd…..wait for it….blew me away! Are you sensing the pattern here???

I have to say congratulations and thank you to all of the actors, especially my niece Sarah, the directors, those who built sets and props, the lighting and sound, anyone and everyone involved in the productions of the past calendar year for work and artistry going above and beyond our small town. You’re work has been enchanting, thrilling, heart felt and endearing but most of all a joy the eyes, ears and heart of those who have had the privilege of seeing any of the the recent performances.

Seeing the performances that I’ve seen this past year make me sorry for missing out for so long and excited about what the future holds for Academy Theater performances to come.

There is one more weekend left to see Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, October 19th, 20th and 21st!!! It’s the perfect show for the Halloween time of year! Don’t miss it!!! Visit www.theacademytheatre.org for dates, times and tickets!
