October Safety Awareness: Halloween

Hi this is Sgt. Trenga with the Meadville City Police Department bringing you this month’s safety awareness announcement.

With the start of the fall season, Halloween is fast approaching. To ensure a safe and fun holiday, here are some safety tips.

  • Never trick or treat alone. Young children should go with an adult and older children should go in a group.
  • Children should carry flashlights and incorporate other lights such as glow sticks as part of their costumes. This will help them see and be seen.  Make sure to look both ways when crossing the street.
  • Parents: If your child is carrying a weapon as part of their costume, make sure it is made of flexible plastic. Make sure your child’s costume fits well and is not to baggy or dragging. If your child is wearing a mask, make sure the child can see clearly and breathe well. Be sure to check your children’s candy when they return home. Throw away any unwrapped or open candy.
  • And lastly, Drivers, be aware of children and exercise additional caution in residential areas.

I want you and your family to have a safe and fun holiday. Happy Halloween!
